The cosmopolitan Skiathos hometown of the famous writer A. Papadiamantis invites you to swim in the most natural Mediterranean beach of Koukounaries and the famous Lalaria.
Just 41nautical miles. from Volos, Magnesia and 2.4 nautical miles. from the Katigiorgis coast of southern Pelion, is the most cosmopolitan island of the Sporades.
Since ancient times it has been inhabited by several Greek tribes including Pelasgians, Cretes and Macedonians. After the Asia Minor Disaster of 1922 many Greeks from the coasts of Asia Minor and especially from Cesme Smyrna settled on the hospitable island.
Today it belongs to the elite of the islands of Greece, having the capital of Skiathos Town on its southeastern side. There is also the main port with all the necessary facilities for the safe docking of boats. Fuel, water, 220v, ATM, TAXI, bus station and parking are provided. Just a 5-minute walk from the marina, you are in the city of Skiathos, with additional services such as super markets, health services (doctors, pharmacies), laundry services, plenty of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. Above the harbor, in an amphitheatrical location, is the old town, where you can enjoy excellent food at one of its restaurants, with spectacular views of the sea. It is worth visiting Bourtzi with the Venetian Castle, a small pine-forested peninsula that separates the port of Skiathos in two, from the one of the commercial and on the other the old harbor. Today, there is the Naval Museum and the cultural center of Skiathos. See also the imposing Castle of the 14th century, a medieval castle and old capital of the island. Access is by car and then by walking 1800m to it or else by the sea by boat.
One of the most important Greek writers, Skiatitis Alexandros Papadiamantis, with the most important works, Fonissa and Gyftopoula, lived on the island. Its residence is a museum space open to the public.
Beautiful churches like the Virgin Mary of the Assumption and the Metropolitan Church of the Three Hierarchs dominate the area.
